Losing one's way

Sometimes a break is a good thing. Sometimes time away does the body good. Sometimes an escape is just what one needs in order to heal or be refreshed. Sometimes you need to go away to find your way back. :-)

Not sure if I stopped blogging for one reason over another but I know that it wasn't one of those things where I woke up one day and said, "today I am going to stop blogging for six months and see if anyone notices" or "I think I will take a break from Facebook and see if anyone misses me". No, honestly, life happened and I think it was a good thing that the Lord allowed me to be away from this "public" outlet for a time. It could have become a temptation to vent about this season in my life where I feel frustration and emotional stress almost every second of every day.

Now, I am semi-back from my vaca or whatever I was on and hoping to share some things and hoping for advise in return.

Right now I am in an ever changing job at a hospital that I enjoy work for but next week my schedule changes again due to...wait for it...going back to school. Yes, you read correctly. Being a floater type job, I needed to decide where I was headed and what I wanted to do. I needed to find a job that I could thrive in and enjoy so I am going back to school for medical coding. It appears to be the next up and coming medical/business career with the changes in the coding system and my supervisors seem to think I would be good at it. Now, don't get me wrong, being a career woman isn't at the top of my list but this would be a job I could do from home one day if needed and it has flexible within the job itself. So, hopefully I won't have to be glued to a computer screen all day.

My ultimate goal, aside from glorifying the Father in all I do, is to be a wife and mother but during this season I believe He has called me to use the many talents He has given me in the medical community.

Pray for me, my family, and a whole host of others that are too long to list here. My heart is heavy with emotional stress and mental drain but even in this He refines us and purifies us into the image of His Son. What an amazing thought but what a painful process at times. I am trying to work on knowing Him more, knowing myself better, and knowing my vessel so that I can use it for Him.

Merry Christmas

It is Christmas morning and while many of my friends and family are busy opening gifts and telling the blessed Christmas story....I am sitting in a house that is not my own but one that belongs to someone who is very much like family to me and mine. This Christmas season is very different than any other as we have been living in a hotel for over two weeks while our hardwood floors have been getting repaired. While this was a necessary evil, it hasn't been easy over the last few days. I have been missing my home during this Christmas season...the process of putting up the tree, the holiday baking, and the special time with my family as we gather together.

So, here I am, with my sister asleep in the next room, as we take care of a friend's puppy for the day and await our family to arrive for breakfast...better get the food in the oven and grab some more coffee...by the way, I'm still praying it snows!

Merry Christmas to you and yours...remember that no matter where you are and whatever traditions you have, Christ is the reason for the season and being with your family is all that matters.

God Bless you, everyone!

Day #2 in New York

Wow...sorry for the delay but we were without a computer at our house for almost 3 weeks. We were relying on my brother's laptop for only the necessities but it doesn't have anti-virus protection so I couldn't risk posting pictures or anything other than email.

So here are pictures from our second day in New York. Hope you enjoy seeing the sights through my eyes.

Standing in line trying to get tickets for another Broadway show (which we were unsuccessful in doing)

Inside Trinity Church

Inside St. Paul's Church (served as a place for refugees during 9/11)

Standing outside St. Paul's Church and Cemetary (also across the street from Ground Zero)

On the Staten Island Ferry

On the Ferry

Self Portrait...on the Ferry

The sign was rather humorous considering not many people paid attention to it

This was also the day we had the chance to see our friend Jared Bradshaw make his Broadway debut in "Jersey Boys" but due to the heat and being exhausted from the day, among other things, we were unable to see this event. We are so proud of him for coming this far...although we are not surprised! If you are ever in New York, we suggest checking to see if he or his fiance (who plays Glinda in "Wicked") are performing. They are both fabulous performs!!!

Hopefully day #3 adventures won't be withheld from you as long as day #2 but be patient if they are.

Toodles!

#100 and New York City!

In some ways it is sad that it has taken me so long to get to my 100th post but at the same time it shows that I take my time with this thing. I give my thoughts a little bit at a time and so what if it takes me a little over a year and half to get you, my dear readers, 100 bits of my life....that's just the way the cookie crumbles around here.

In honor of this, my 100th post in the blogger world, I give you pictures....yes, can you believe it, pictures from New York. My sweet sister, Margaret, and I went to visit longtime friends in Brooklyn, NY for about 5 days just recently and while we had our share of trials in adjusting to the walking city, we had a blast as well. I came home with a new respect for grass and trees, feeling like I could use a new set of feet, and a new appreciation for living on a "regular" schedule.

DAY #1 in the city consisted of a lot of walking, crossing the Brooklyn Bridge and seeing the Broadway Show, Come Fly Away. It was a dance production set to all Frank Sinatra music.

Stay tuned for Day #2....

Where do I start?

I have no idea where to begin. The date of my blog is a bit skewed because I created the titled on May 18th but I didn't post until almost a week after that, after I had lost my job.
Needless to say my world has been one big roller coaster since that event in my life but God has been good in causing me to become more stable in my personal time with Him and in remembering that He is the reason behind every season!
After losing my job I think I spent the first 2-3 weeks in mourning, 2 weeks teaching swimming lessons (which makes a little money, that always helps the unemployed), and took two trips!! It was during the 2nd of these trips that I received word that my former boss died suddenly!!! It is definitely a shock. But I sucked up that thing called pride and attended the funeral upon my return from Virginia and have been in contact with my former co-workers since then.
What good would it do for me or them if I were spineless and kept my distance just because I got fired? They need love too....they need compassion just like Christ showed us compassion. So, that's what I'm trying to do.
As for my job search, it's gone slower than needed and I'll be the first to admit that I didn't go about things the right way but through dear friends and supportive family members I am getting the job done and getting my name out there. I am hoping to have some interviews soon. But until then we have a full week of swimming lessons next week and I'm thankful that I get to help with that....I haven't been able to in several years!
Forgive my lack of writing over the last 6 weeks....but the blog realm (as for as writing goes) has been the last thing on my mind lately. But now I'm back and maybe I can impart some wisdom for someone who may in the future go through what I'm currently experiencing. It is only with God's help that I've been able to survive....better than I thought I would.

Mad, mad world

The title of this post was created back on May 18th....just 3 days before my world was turned upside down, backwards, and sideways. Honestly, I feel like I have been on quite a roller coaster in the last month, really, and it wasn't until May 21st that I realized why.

I talked before about how much I try, and try some more, to read my Bible on a regular basis. It is not because I feel obligated to but rather because it's something that I know that if I don't do it then how else I can further my relationship with Christ? How else can I truly make Him my husband? How can we truly get to know our heavenly Father who cares for our every need when we know not where to turn in even our darkest hour?

It was 2 weeks ago that I realized that my priorities have been completely crooked and that God used my getting fired from my job to show me just that. So, during the last 2 weeks....I have screamed, cried, and worried more than I thought possible. However, I have felt relief, love, rest, and strength like I never knew before. My friends and family have come alongside me and made me realize that despite not having a job that life goes on and that God has a bigger plan (once again) for me than I had for myself.

So now I have more than enough time for reading His word and for doing those things that I keep putting off. Would appreciate prayers for another job though....not sure where I need to be at this point or even what I want to do but God knows and I pray that His path would be clearer than ever before.

Enough about that....on to a few pictures from my Memorial Day travels!!! Enjoy!

Can't believe I was a nanny for her 5 years ago...

Father/daughter dance was so sweet

Line in the sand

"Each one must give as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under complusion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. As it is written, 'He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.'" (2 Corinthians 9:7-9)

How many of you have ever loaned money to someone that wasn't related to you? How many of you would be quick to share that experience with a friend or family member who is considering doing the same for someone else with the hopes of changing their mind? How many of you have turned someone else down that needed a loan (with intent to repay) because you felt cheated by someone else? How many of us view our money, resources and time as, in fact, not our own?

All of these questions have been MAJOR food for thought in my life lately. It is all too sad that life revolves around money, time and resources that we would say sustain us. However, let me give you the verses above by way of a challenge. God loves the cheerful giver and I'm seeking every day to be just that. This is not to pat myself on the back but meerly to lend a life lesson to my brothers and sisters in Christ.

Some of you will remember my 40 days of purpose where I sought to do for others as Christ does for us, most days more times than we can number. So, this challenge stems from that journey because it was then that I grasped for the first time in my 27 years of life that we really don't own anything in this life. But the one thing that I focused, because I seeking to do for others, was money. So, now when I am in a conversation with a friend about financial struggles the one thought I try to leave them with is this: "My money is ultimately God's money and He's going to do with it what He wants to regardless."

In fact, just this week I was trying to help a friend work through some difficult financial struggles with past due bills and what-not, and encouraged her to trust God to provide where only He can. She is a tough nut to crack but I think I'm working through some of that tough outer shell. Last week I had loaned her some money to put in the bank to help cover her until we got paid so that a check wouldn't bounce. I gave the money to her without blinking really....it was like God was pushing me from behind or something. But yesterday when her bills and everything seemed to snowball I gave her the check she had written me back. I told her not to worry about it and that I didn't want that to be another source of stress.

It feels good to give even when it's someone who doesn't totally get it. Giving is so God-honoring...just in the last 3 months I have committed to giving to 3 additional organizations/friends. The groups really don't matter so much but I have felt God really pulling me towards this lately. And in response I have said, "yes, Lord, this is your money, do with it what you will." So, I am blessed to be a bigger part of some ministries that continue to bless others and to help another ministry/family get their mission work started next summer!

So, be cheerful fellow believer, do not complain about giving to others, about having to foot the bill when others can't, or about doing as God has commanded. Be a cheerful giver wherever you see the need. It may be a penny to some but the kingdom of heaven will be your reward.

God bless!

Bring on the holidays

While our family always finds an excuse to have guacamole or make a margarita or have chips and salsa, Cinco de Mayo is probably one of my favorite "holidays"! I was all energized and ready to go for our Wednesday at home. Yes, everyone was supposed to be home for the first time in weeks. *3 cheers for family time* Well, something told me it wasn't going to go as planned when my dad called that morning to ask me to pick up Margaret from work on my way home. "Sure, no problem", I said. Get home....my dad is tutoring, which is always does on Wednesday evenings until about 7, my mom is gone to see the doctor Margaret works for to get something for her cold, Stewart is loafing around somewhere and Margaret had agreed to babysit at 6.
So, as soon as I changed my clothes I crack open some Jose and mixed my adult beverage to enjoy while I prepared the taco salad items! Cheese: check. Lettuce: check. Chips: check. Meat: check. Refried beans: check. Salsa: one teaspoon left. Sour cream: in the form of green onion dip....it will have to do. Black olives: nowhere to be found, ugh! Margarita: priceless!!!!
Stewart suggested that I find a funny, clean movie to watch...."okay, I can do that", I said! A few minutes on Netflix and we decided to reminise on An American Tail. Oh how I love Fifel! (Don't judge....it was my favorite childhood movie...next to Sleeping Beauty, of course.) However, I refused to watch it until I caught up on Tuesday's episode of LOST....which I sat in suspense and tears with my taco salad and margarita in hand!
So, when it came time to watch Fifel....no one wanted to watch it with me. All of a sudden the plan changed to playing cards.....how did that happen? Needless to say, I was not happen and watched the movie anyway. Maybe Cinco de Mayo isn't such a fun holiday after all!

BTW - For all of you guys out there: I was sitting at Barnes and Noble today for lunch when two guys came in to pick out a Mother's Day gift off a rack next to the Starbucks area. It was funny but extremely sad at the same time. I am not a huge fan of worldly holidays anyway but if you are going to observe them remember two things: original and/or avoid the holiday display. The holiday display was created as for people who don't want to take time to be original and designed to feed the company money in a split second. If I ever get a present from said display, I will know that the person doesn't know how to take the time to think about an original idea, take the time to put together their own gift or doesn't really care that much about the holiday. Don't get me wrong...I love a box of chocolate but I would much rather receive on a day "just because you care" rather than a day when the world says you should.

Enough soapbox for one day....back to the work on my desk...then off the a 2-year-old's fiesta and many a thing this weekend!!!! God bless and be safe!

It has finally happened....

....the boss has blocked certain social networking sites from our computers. NOOOO!!!! *snicker* Not that I wasn't getting any work done but perhaps I was too distracted from time to time. :-/ I guess that means my office will look like a changed room by the end of this week since I won't be spending any time on Facebook. LOL

Now this does raise the question again about getting a new phone, which I do need badly, but do I need one with all the bells and whistles?? I am already paying for ulimated texting so for another $10 I could have email and internet on my phone. Good idea, bad idea, not all it's cracked up to be?? Come people, I need help on this. You can't let me make this decision alone.

In other news, my little sister (well, she's not little another more) is taking her learner's test as I type this so be praying for her. This is her second shot and she so desperately wants to pass!!!!!

Well...back to work....have a wonderful day. I'm going to try to depsite my no Facebook/no Ingram/no LOST Tuesday!! (Wow, that sounds depressing!)

Never let him steal your joy

The time has come for me to finally put some pressing thoughts "on paper" about the events of the last week. My mind is still somewhat in a state of jello-ness and my thoughts are still not as clear as I would like for them to be but I have to express some things that I have been thinking over the last few days so that I can finally put this all behind me.

I have been going over and over in my mind every single detail of Wednesday morning (post-seizure) as best I can remember trying hard to recall just how a sweet little 3 year old may have ingested seizure medication that may have seemed like candy. I have tried to recall the steps I took to swap one whole pill for one half a pill and the possibility of dropping one of the floor in the process. I have even thought that when my dear friend, who gracious took care of me in my time of need, took two pills from that bottle that one could have escaped her hand and slipped onto the floor. I have considered both of these things to the point of disturbing my mind with grief, guilt and sorrow and I refuse to let Satan entice me with such any further.

This morning, I was meditating on Psalm 91 and remembering that Christ is our refuge especially at our darkest hour and that it is only through Him that we find forgiveness, comfort, and mercy....and the strength to move on. Last night, I had a little chat with myself and decided that I wasn't going to let this situation get the best of me any longer and that I wouldn't let Satan have his way. Why should I allow him to steal my joy when Christ is my joy??

Our sweet little Simon is safe, healthy and happy in the arms of his family and friends again and that is only through the perfect provision of our mighty King. Only through Christ can we realize that these situations remind us how fleeting life is and how precious loved ones are. We need to cherish EVERY SINGLE moment we have with our family and friends because they can be taken in a second.

This situation reminds me that God protects fools and little children too....but He also provides for us even before we ask Him to and helps us to see that He is still in control no matter how often Satan tries to attack our spiritual center.

May God help me to dig deep in His word, study His word, and love His word so that next time Satan comes knocking....I can stand ready to fight, more equipped than ever before!

Thoughts of Wednesday

My thoughts from Wednesday morning are still a blur because it was on that day that things took place in my life and in the life of some very dear friends.

On Tuesday evenings, as many of you know, I always bunk in with my friends the Ingrams for LOST night. It comes with many a memory, many a laugh, and quite often a bottle of wine. So, we went to bed following yet another typical Tuesday night and I set my alarm for work the next morning....however, I failed to get up on time. So, I bolted out of bed and ran to the bathroom to start getting ready. (I'll spare you the details of such.) The last thing I remember was standing at the sink after having plugged the straightener in and laying the towel on the counter....the next thing I know I'm laying in the bed with April standing beside me trying to give me my seizure medicine. Oops...I've done it again. I had a seizure....as a result of what I thought was not taking my medicine the night before. Dummy!

So, here I am trying to come back to life and muttering words amid my chopped up tongue (which I might add as I write this is now black and blue in some places). However, I must admit that my thoughts are not on myself (which should be obvious by being at work the last two days) but my thoughts have been distracted...thinking on a sweet little 3-year-old named Simon who somehow ingested one of my seizure pills on Wednesday morning causing him to go into a weird fit that sent him to the hospital for the last two and a half days!!!!

While I am glad that it's just the reaction from such a medication, I still have mixed emotions about the whole thing. Needless to say, I will be extra careful with my meds around children from now on. Hopefully I can go see him tomorrow. If you want more details about how everything transpired....look up my friend April at the little house on the left blog! (I can't get the blog link to work right now. ;-( )

In all things acknowledge Him....

....and He shall direct your path!

It's me again....you know that person that has been severely lacking lately when it comes to blogging. My apologies who wait with baited breath upon my next post...I'm back so rest easy! LOL
Over the last couple of weeks I have endured blood, sweat, and tears to get some MAJOR work done at my office. I'm about 2/3 of the way done. Then last week, the attorney I work with gave me a few more projects that are due on the 23rd....so today I spent most of the day reading medical records (not on company time, might I add).
I have also been indirectly touched by the death of several friends' loved ones: a girl from a family we have known for several years committed suicide, the founder of the legendary Spivey Hall Children's Choir died, and a dear friend lost her mother. It is sad when these things happen but God always gives us the grace to get through it!

Then today I have been thinking about the fact that my brother is turning 21 tomorrow....the last of us kids is turning 21 and it's weird! I still come home at times and wish I saw that cute little curly headed kid that he was at age 2. He is not really into alcohol which I suppose is a blessing but rather all he wanted for his birthday was a carrying license for his gun! So...that's what I gave him money for! He's awesome and he's the only brother I have so I cherish the moments we have together even if I don't spend as much time with him as I would like. But he has turned into a wonderful, respectful young man and I can't wait until he starts a family one day. It's going to be a beautiful thing!

I have much more I could vent/write about here but I am tired and hopefully this post will get me back into the regular blogging cycle!

Have a blessed Sunday everyone!

Memorization is the name of the game

** EDIT ** I had stated in the 4th paragraph that I had reached the end of Lent....not sure why my brain thought that because I know that it goes to Easter Sunday! Thanks April for correcting me even though I'm completely embarassed!

The weekend was such a jammed packed time right on the heels of my grouchy mood on Friday....that I was ready to sleep the day away today. Or at least I assume that is what I was dreaming about when I woke up about an hour late this morning. I made it work with 6 minutes to spar (surprise) after taking 30 minutes to shower, dry my hair, and get my lunch (and my coffee) before running out the door!!! Needless to say my day/week hasn't started off so well.

However, details from the weekend are as follows:
Saturday - get up, get ready, and meet a friend to get our nails done (she ended up canceling on me, BOO!) then it was work from 10-2 as a counselor at the pregnancy center, then to the grocery store....then to Cedartown for our monthly dinner/bridge night with our dear friends the Polley's. (We were celebrating 3 of their kids, who aren't kids anymore, birthdays....so there was quite a lot of food!) Didn't get home until 11ish.

Sunday - Day 40 finally arrived and we worshiped with our dear church family then went to a family's house for lunch....left there about 4:45pm, dropped Margaret off at my grandmother's, then arrived home about 7:15pm!! I might also mention that amid this schedule I didn't get my Sunday afternoon nap....double BOO!!! Went to bed around 10:30.

So, I've reached the end of my 40 days of purpose and am still learning much about this season....as well as much about my own personal walk with the Lord and how it shouldn't be neglected! Yes, we should seek to do for others...as we would have them do for us....but at this point in my life I realized that I need to focus on my Christian walk so that my daily walk with Him will be a light to others. This is not easy to do...there seems to always be some reason or something going on that keeps me from having my daily time with the Lord...especially if I'm too lazy to get out of bed.

From this point, I purpose to live a life that centers on Christ and His word and purpose to memorize more Scripture so that I can pull out those weapons when I endure a trial or have someone who needs those words. This is not an easy task but I'm going to try.....I want to start with Psalm 91 and Romans 8....we'll see how far I get over the next few weeks. Please pray for me as I strive to do this and pray that God will give each of you a heart to memorize His word more regularly.

Hope the Lenten season is as much a blessing in your life as it was in mine!

37 and 38 leds to one big attitude problem

So...I don't know which to blame my attitude on yesterday, my allergies or my job but boy was a grouch yesterday! It seemed like everything I did yesterday was never good enough and on top of that the Social Security Administration was having issues with their electronic fax machine! I was ill as a hornet by the time I got off work and knew I needed to go and let off some steam...somewhere other than my house. So..I decided to go visits some dear friends who I had neglected since their new baby (and the mama) arrived home from the hospital. This baby totals 7 kids for them and I just love those kids and their whole family. So, thanks Gorg for that adult beverage and Mindy for a wonderful supper.....I needed that company last night. Thanks again for letting me invite myself. Maybe Friday night can become a trend.

Today....has a lot in store....maybe I can blog about that later this evening...we'll see about that. But now I'm volunteering at the pregnancy center so I must get back to it. Have a blessed one.....

36 = one unexpected gift and one evening of entertainment

Yesterday felt like an eternity simply because I was not in the mood to work. Once I "finished" the final file I was working on for next Friday's hearings (we have 3 in one day....on Good Friday), I think I kind of went on vacation mode. Not really sure what happened but it's like I took one look at the work piling up on my desk and on the floor and said "I know this needs to be caught up on but I'm tired...I need a break." Since then I have worked on getting some things done but I'm still not excited about it. So, about 2:00 my mom calls to say that she is on her way to see me and needs me to meet her in the parking deck outside our office....she had something for me. Now, typically when I hear those words you never know what that means. One of the last times she said that she brought me a vase of fake daisies to my office in Rockmart with a note that said "Daisies are the friendliest flowers." (Anyone who has seen You've Got Mail should get that quote.) About 2:30 she calls me again, giving me the signal to meet her in the parking lot. I go outside and through the window I see a lovely bouquet of white daisies!!! Talk about making my day....I was happy and my office looks happy too. Here is a picture of such: (Notice the same kind of note as before)

Then last night I got home and helped finished getting dinner on the table....about the time I was serving plates Dad and Stewart went outside to see the cat show. One of our cats had corner a mouse....somewhat larger in size but completely innocent looking. Pumpkin had chased it from the side of the house and cornered in on the front porch. OH joy! So, while our food started getting cold I went outside to see this sight.....it wasn't until after dinner, after barking orders that "Your dinner is getting cold", that I went back outside with my camera and this is what I found.

I took a few short videos of the cat playing with the mouse....before cracking it's skull (no I didn't have the nerve to get that on tape). However, I can't seem to load those on here....perhaps I'll do that on Facebook tonight.

Well...I really have to get some work done...UGH!!!

5 days left....

I'm have been absent from this blog for the last few days because I've been so utterly disgusted over the passage of the healthcare bill. So, last night (day 35), I attended the viewing of our local Tea Party Documentary! Our voices need to be heard over this "shoving healthcare down our throats" stunt! As a citizen and proud American (because of the founding fathers who gave us such a heritage), I'm not willing to stand by and let the federal government dictate my care. So, I'm going to do everything I can to get others to join this fight. If you live in Rome and weren't there last night, please consider joining us at the next meeting....contact me for details....and stand with us as we seek to get back to the beginning, back to the constitution which the federal government continues to violate and ignore.

I have several friends who disagree with me saying, "I would be proud to pay taxes to help the less privileged" and "healthcare is an inalienable right". BOLOGNA!!!! No one has the right to healthcare. We have the God given ability to work with our hands to make a life for our families. We have the privilege to live in a country without tyranny and the FED is taking that all away. Whatever happened to limited government and states rights? Whatever happened to the Christian values upon which this country was founded and leaders actually turned to God for direction? These are the things we need to get back to, these are the things we need to see in American again.

God help us and save us from these wicked people who seek their own glory and honor. Lord forgive them because they don't care that each time they seek the ultimate control, they spit in the face of the One who will always have ultimate control.

Can y'all tell I'm on a rampage today? The whole thing makes my blood boil!!!!

But today is the first of the remaining 5 days (unless my counting is off somewhere) and I feel like I've only just begun.....it will continue after the 40 day mark...by God's grace.

The good and the evil

Day 32: A B-E-A-UTIFUL day!!!! I just could not get enough of the sunshine on Saturday but yet I had things to do, people to see, places to go....all of which were indoors! My day started off by going to the Pregnancy Center, where I volunteer as a counselor once a month, to help another counselor organize our clothes closet. We were both scheduled to be off this Saturday but decided to take the time to go in anyway and change out winter clothes for spring and summer clothes. It was a wonderful time of fellowship and service. I so enjoyed it and enjoyed seeing the finished project!!!

From there I went out to mall as my tax refund just came in and Belk's was having a sale....didn't really find anything but I had to try! Then I decided that I needed to stop ignoring the gas light and get some gas in my car so I drove over to Kroger (So I could save 10 cents) then I ended up calling home, as I always do, to see if there is anything we need from the store while I'm going in to get a few things. So, the phone call evolves into a whole grocery list....fabulous. *insert sarcasm here*

So, I'm in the checkout line and the girl in front of me, who had two small children with her, asked very politely if she could use my Kroger card...looked like she was buying out all of the Vitamin Waters. Yet again, without thinking about the situation, I said, "of course, no problem". I do believe the lady was crying by the time she completed her purchase. I felt good about being able to help someone else but then immediately wondered if I would be able to use the same card for back-to-back purchases. The cashier assured me I could so we were good to go!

Day 33: In utter disgust over the impending healthcare vote, I tried to encourage my family not to even tune into the radio or internet to find out what the results were. Why you may ask? Well, on Saturday night we had a time of prayer before bed and asked God to foil the plans of the vote because not only is the bill complete crap....but it was being held on Sunday. Sunday should be a day of reverence and honor to God, not government. It was just another occasion that shows that our leaders hold no regard for God or His law....but only their own. So, I purposed to encourage my family to focus on the Sabbath rather than that vote. It seemed to work except for when my grandmother called to ask my dad what he thought about it. My dad is used to sitting around listening to the radio most days so I can believe this was a huge task for him to pull himself away from such a habit. It was with that phone call that we realized what had happened....I was so very disappointed and discouraged but went to bed remembering that God is in control, as always, and He is going to bring judgment on the wicked and favor on the just. His plan is perfect and no new bill or law can change that.

Drumroll please....

Day 31: the highlight of my week!!!!

Tonight has been planned for a little over a week and I was so excited and ready to get off work by the time 5:00 came.
Stewart, Margaret and I took our our nephews bowling! It was so much fun to watch their faces as they bowled for their very first time! They did really great, for a 4 and 6 year old, some times and then other times I think Eli held the record in gutter balls. Really though it was wonderful to take them to do something they've never done before.
So, I'll just leave you with some pictures of tonight's main event! Enjoy!

This is just a glimpse of how bad the score was...at this point Ezra was winning and by the end of the night no one got over 100!!!!

28+29+30 = 3 happy kids, way too much food, and an average day

Tuesday nights have become a weekly tradition when I go visit my friends the Ingrams....let's see have we been doing this together for 4 years or 5 years? Regardless, I have been hanging out with them some period of time....watching LOST together and in some ways it seems like just yesterday. I mean when I think about it, it seems like we were just in church together and I had just come back from college to find these new found friends that graciously took me in. We have spent time together in their old house, my old house/their rental house, and now their new house.
In their old house, they went out of their way to make me feel at home and gave me a lovely air mattress to sleep on each week. They even took care of me when I had an unexpected seizure when I was getting ready to go to work one morning. Now that is dedication!
In my old house/their rental house, we continued the weekly tradition and at the same time they allowed me to savor some last few moments in my former bedroom. The memories made with their family in my house can never be replaced.
Now, in their new house, their home....the one we have prayed for so hard...they have graciously made provisions for me each week so that I can spend time with them and their sweet kids (well, sweet, except when Simon bites me!). LOL Well, they provide me a place to sleep as long as I bring some wine or goodies to share for the night.
So this week wasn't anything different...I got off work and headed to Cave Spring after picking up some wine and some mint chocolate chip ice cream. I thought the kids needed an early St. Patrick's Day treat! So, as soon as I pulled in the driveway, the kids who willingly call me their Aunt, come running to the door with excitement. I tell them that I've brought a surprise and their eyes light up until they find out they can't have it until after dinner. Bad Aunt, bad! It was a lovely evening as always. Here are a few pictures of the darlings:

Then last night we indulged in way too much food in honor of St. Patrick's Day. We always like to get together with our good friend Dr. Martha Shaw when we can and she has been dying to have a dip night. So, we did....complete with wine and mint chocolate chip ice cream!!!! It was a wonderful way to celebrate the day. By the way, did any of you know that some protestants wear orange on St. Patrick's day? Never knew that or knew why but now I do and am considering that for next year.

Then today, well, it was filled with an unpleasant but necessary meeting with a client who has a hearing in two weeks, an ungrateful letter from another client, and a bible study that ended earlier than normal! Oh joy! Those events and then some sum up day #30!!!

Crazy to think that today is day 30....only 10 "official" days left on this journey....I am hoping for a really good post tomorrow as I celebrate day 31 doing something for some little people in my family....I'm telling you what. You'll have to come back and find out tomorrow or some time this weekend.

Good night everybody!!!

Girl time in Wonderland

Yesterday I was blessed to have two opportuntites to celebrate day #27 with some of my closest girls! Ironically both outings involved Mexican food but I'm not complaining. :-)
Lunch was spent with a couple of dear friends I previously worked with at the hospital. One of them is going through some rough times with her husband and I wanted to be there and encourage her as she seeks to listen to God through this trial. It was a wonderful break from the work day but dangit, lunch hours are just all too short some times. I hope that some of the things I said to her will help during this difficult road ahead.....I know that God placed me there for a reason....if only to listen, as I seem to do so well.

Then last night I slipped back into my childhood days as I met some other girl friends to see the remake of Alice in Wonderland!!! I had an Alice in Wonderland dress growing up....even had my 5 year old portrait made in it....so it was fun to go see a remake of a movie that I loved so much. I enjoyed the movie....in some ways I guess we were expecting more from Tim Burton but on the whole I enjoyed it. Oh...did I mention that it was in 3D?? So, only fitting that we document such an occasion. Hope the pictures give you a glimpse even if our photographer would say they are grainy and such!
